Intern Success Stories

The Gateway Gaston has included collegiate interns in our business plan since our inception. Interns from Mars Hill, Carson Newman, Gaston College, UNC-Charlotte, Belmont Abbey, and other schools have provided interns. None has been more consistent and provided more service than Gaston College. Here are some highlights of interns’ successes following their time with the Gateway Gaston.

Javonda Adams,

Gaston College

Javonda has expanded her work in our community’s deaf and hard of hearing community.

Johnsie Adams,

Gaston College

Johnsie continues to work in her field and partnered with the Gateway post-internship to record and publish her powerful life story via podcast. Hear Johnsie’s Journey at this link https://gatewaygaston.org/podcasts/

Sherry Curry,

Gaston College

Sherry has served as executive director of Cherryville Area Ministries for 8 years.

David Christopher,

Gaston College

David is serving his community as a housing and service coordinator for developmentally disabled at Gaston Residential Services, Inc.

Laurel Davis,

Gaston College

Laurel led a team of Gateway interns and volunteers to write and publish a full-length book on benevolence and nutrition. The book is currently being printed for distribution by December 2021.

Ruth Dobbins,

Gaston College

Ruth was honored as Intern of the Year by Gaston College during her internship with Gateway. She has now accepted full time employment with Kintegra Health, Gaston where she serves a Spanish language specialist.

Valeria Nazario,

Gaston College

Valerie is making plans to return to her home in Puerto Rico as a human service professional.

Amber Reeves,

Gaston College

Amber is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree and works full time at Gaston County Law enforcement.

Jennifer Tidwell,

Gaston College

Jennifer partnered with the Gateway team and served as a coauthor of our published book in 2022, on human service and nutrition, Gateway to Nutrition.
